Behavioral Services for Children with Special Needs

Early Intervention
Our Plan

The services that we provide are based on current best practices in child development, with an emphasis on relationship and play-based theories, including Stanley Greenspan’s Floortime Model.  The developmentally-appropriate services will be provided in your child’s natural environment/s with a staff to child ratio of 1:1.  To promote each child’s individual overall development, the team at Keany & Associates, Inc. will work closely with you and other service providers to ensure that there is carryover with specific strategies and techniques from one session to the next.

After we receive your child’s Early Intervention (EI) authorization and reports from the Regional Center, our EI director, Carrie Armstrong, will set up the initial meeting. During this initial meeting, Carrie will sit down with the parents/caregivers and complete a comprehensive intake questionnaire.  During the sessions following the initial meeting, Carrie will conduct the initial assessment and submit a comprehensive intake report about your child’s level of functioning to the WRC within the first month of services. After the initial assessment and report have been submitted, she will hand-select the interventionist who will be providing services to your child. She will then provide on-going supervision to the interventionist and be in constant contact with your family/caregivers to ensure that all of the needs of your child and family are being met. Every six months, a progress report will be submitted to the WRC, detailing what the interventionist has been working on with your child and your child’s current progress and needs. The progress reports will be submitted a month prior to your child’s ending funding date to ensure that the staff at the WRC have ample time to meet and determine to reauthorize if warranted.

As previously stated, the EI director will supervise every case on a regular basis and continually work with your family/caregivers to increase your understanding of the techniques being modeled, taught and coached to you during the sessions. She will also be available to help the family/caregivers understand the social, educational, training and supportive resources available in the community.

In addition, for children that require future services, a comprehensive exit report will be written a month prior to the child’s Individual Education Program (IEP) meeting stating the child’s progress made as a result of the EI services received and recommendations for services to be provided within the preschool program.

Our Assessment Tools

The Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP) Strands will be used as the curriculum-based assessment tool. This assessment provides a developmental hierarchy for assessment and assists in determining future goals and outcomes for your child to work on. It is imperative that the interventionist conducting the assessment receive input from your child’s transdiciplinary team to ensure that the results are accurate in different types of environments. The HELP assessment focuses on the following developmental domains; Cognitive, Receptive/Expressive Communication, Fine/Gross Motor, Social-Emotional, and Adaptive/Self-Help.

Our Early Intervention Team

Clinically, all programs at Keany and Associates are supervised by Jennifer Keany, MFT. The director for the Early Intervention program is Carrie Armstrong. Carrie has her master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education and has worked with children birth to five years of age professionally for more than five years. She will direct the daily operation of your child's program and provide valuable parent training and support.

The interventionists providing direct service to our clients have worked in the field for several years and have shown a commitment to this field, their clients and to continually learning to help the clients they serve.  They have a strong understanding of developmental milestones, various methods and techniques of communication, and how to work closely with parents and caregivers.

Our staff is as diverse as the population that we plan to serve in the West Los Angeles County area. Their cultural experiences will help in the understanding of the differences of each family and their needs.
